Tile Roofing and Roof RepairA tiled roof is one of the most popular and durable roofing materials that a homeowner can select. There are several types of tile roofs that can be installed these days. The cheapest type of roof tile are usually made of concrete. Roofs tiled with clay or slate tiles are generally more expensive, and also available these days are photovoltaic tiles which can be used in place of unsightly solar panels to general power for the home or even in to feed back into the mains grid. Despite this durability repairs are sometimes required. Roof RepairsOnce the roof is actually constructed it is just a question of maintaining the roof in good or at least weatherproof condition to continue enjoying the benefits. It a single roof tile breaks, cracks, shatters or spalls it is so easy to put it to the back of your mind and leave it until the monthly paycheck arrives. With a roof however it really is a case of "a stitch in time saves nine" as even slight unseen water damage can cause roof timbers to rot away quietly creating a much bigger and more expensive problem to fix later. Roof tiles can get damaged or be lifted by the wind, frost, sun or roof expansion movement as the roof heats up and cools down. Poorly fixed ridge tiles are especially susceptible to wind damage. A dedicated "Home Improvement" follower with a head for heights might decide to tackle a small roof tile repair job himself by visiting a local roofing materials merchant to aquire replacement tiles. Most of us however prefer to leave roof repairs to a professional roofing contractor. Each state has different regulations covering roofing contractors. You need to check that your roofing contractor is properly authorized to operate in your state. Tile roofs are most popular in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New England, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Tiled roofs are also very popular in other states such as California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Winsconsin. Tile RoofingWith today's busy lives, most people give little thought to the roof over their heads until some kind of problem occurs. The phrase "keeping a roof over your head" is a part of our everyday language, though few of us ever actually experience life without a roof. The author did actually experience this unpleasant situation a few years ago when my family and I somewhat foolishly opted to stay in what was left of our house throughout a major construction project that involved completely removing the old roof and building a brand new roof in its place on our newly enlarged property. The weather in our neighborhood is somewhat unpredictable, though it goes without saying that we experienced the wettest, windiest and coldest weather for many years under tarpaulins (.....if we were lucky) during those few unpleasant weeks when the new roof was being constructed. All I will say is never again!. Needless to say I very much appreciate the benefits of my roof as a result of this trauma! | ||
