China has huge reserves of slate so the trend of importing slate roof tiles from less developed countries is sure to rise. Slate imported from Wales commands premium prices and usually only used for prestige slate roofing projects outside of the United Kingdom. Slate roof tiles are a popular choice of roofing material in the North Western states such as Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New England, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
